Nanaimo, B.C. (January 2, 2024) - IslandLink will start serving northern Vancouver Island communities this spring.
The bus company's new service begins May 16, 2024 and will connect Port Hardy, Port McNeill and Campbell River, to the rest of IslandLink's extensive Vancouver Island routes.
"We know northern Vancouver Island is currently underserved with bus transportation," says Phillip Morgan, owner of IslandLink. "That's why we are pleased to extend our reliable and efficient bus service to this area, as it will benefit both local residents and visitors to the north Island."
This new service to Port Hardy will also provide a Vancouver Island bus transportation connection option for those who travel on northern BC Ferries routes, for example from Bella Coola and Prince Rupert to Port Hardy.
"This service enhances the opportunities for our customers all over Vancouver Island Island to enjoy a seamless journey from community to community," adds Morgan.
The 230-kilometre route is three hours each way between Campbell River, Port McNeill and Port Hardy. Two buses will operate the route - one northbound and one southbound each day. IslandLink already offers bus service between Campbell River and communities to the south as far as Victoria.

About IslandLink
IslandLink celebrated its 25th year of service in 2023. The company started business in 1998 with bus service from Qualicum Beach, French Creek and Parksville to the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal. The service was designed to be a connector for Horseshoe Bay/Departure Bay ferry foot passengers and that remains the focus of the operation today.
Now serving four BC Ferries terminals: Departure Bay, Little River, Buckley Bay and Campbell River, connecting bus transportation with ferry foot passengers, IslandLink carries more than 80,000 passengers a year and currently operates 15 buses with more slated for delivery in early 2024.
